Our history

  1. Our History

  2. 1976 | Humble Beginnings with a Great Vision

The story of success began in 1976. Miran Gracer, a bold sole proprietor from Celje, registered a craft business under the name Grafično papirna galanterija Gracer Miran s.p. Work began in a home workshop, but due to the rapid growth of orders, the premises soon became too small. Within a few years, the first five co-workers joined Miran. In these early years, production was based on simple but precisely made forms, one- and two-colour printed materials, and other graphic products.

  3. 1983 | Expansion and the First Major Brands

Demand grew steadily, so in 1983 the printing house found a new home in an extension to the family house. At that time, seven employees were already working across 500 square metres of business and production space. The machine park was strengthened by renowned single-colour machines from Heidelberg, Rotaprint and Solna, while the focus expanded to the printing of flyers, posters and forms.

  4. 1989 | Transformation into a Limited Liability Company

A milestone year brought legislative changes, which Miran Gracer used as an opportunity for the next step. The status of sole proprietor was replaced by a limited liability company, and Grafika Gracer d.o.o. was born. The company continuously invested in employee knowledge and technological progress. Turnover grew, the team expanded to 12 employees, and more advanced two-colour machines were already humming in the print shop.

  5. 1993 | Digital Beginnings and the First Magazines

With the purchase of the first computers and specialised equipment for film exposure, Grafika Gracer laid the foundations for its own prepress department. This technological leap opened the door to the world of publishing, and production of the first magazines began.

  6. 1996 | Move to Lava and a Historic Milestone

The growth of the company required a radical move. In 1996, Grafika Gracer moved into a purpose-built, modern business building at Lava 7b in Celje, where it still operates successfully today. This was the largest expansion in the company’s history, as production was expanded to as much as 1,300 square metres. The machine park became richer by one two-colour and one four-colour offset press, while the graphic prepress and print finishing departments also made a major step forward.

  7. 1998 | Top Quality and the Birth of Periodicals

To meet the ever-increasing demands of the market and secure a competitive advantage, the company launched a powerful 5-colour Heidelberg offset press for the first time in 1998. Investments also continued in finishing, with a new folding machine and a magazine production line, as the printing house was already regularly printing five periodical editions at that time.

  8. 2005 | Quality Standards and the Digital Revolution

The year 2005 brought a digital revolution to prepress with the introduction of state-of-the-art CTP technology, computer-to-plate, for the direct production of offset plates. At the same time, with the purchase of a colour digital printing machine, the company responded to the need for fast printing of smaller print runs. As confirmation of excellence, they obtained the ISO 9001 quality certificate and committed themselves to sustainable operations by using exclusively ecological paper with certificates such as FSC, PEFC and EMAS.

  9. 2008 | Automation and Rapid Growth in Capacity

One of the largest machine investments up to that point took place. With the purchase of a four-colour, fully automated and computer-controlled offset press from the renowned Manroland brand, printing capacities increased almost overnight by nearly 50 percent.

  10. 2012 | Doubling of Power and Green Energy

The success of the first Manroland machine was crowned four years later by the purchase of a second, completely identical machine. The total capacity of the offset park thus reached an impressive 50,000 B2 sheets per hour. As print runs on the market began to decline while order frequency increased, the digital printing department was modernised with a new Canon machine. In the same year, the company also demonstrated a high level of environmental awareness and installed its own solar power plant on the roof of the facility, providing the company with green energy.

  11. 2013 | Expansion of Premises and Processing Hundreds of Tons of Paper

Grafika Gracer became synonymous with stability and quality. In 2013, they were already processing around 600 tons of paper and cardboard annually. The portfolio included more than 40 regular magazines, more than 100 book titles under their own publishing house, and countless catalogues, packaging and other printed materials. The shortage of space finally ended with the purchase of the neighbouring building, which expanded the premises to as much as 2,600 square metres.

  12. 2015 | The Strength of Family Tradition and Team Spirit

As a dynamic family company, Grafika Gracer employed almost 30 experts in 2015 from the fields of graphics, economics, bookbinding and IT. United under the shared guiding principle: “Every new idea from our customer is a new challenge for us. Every day!”, they looked confidently toward the future.

  13. 2016–2026 | Half a Century of Excellence, Technological Peak and Specialisation

The last decade has been marked by the strengthening of our position at the top of the Slovenian graphic industry. As we have specialised strongly over the years in the printing of magazines and periodicals, today we proudly print more than 50 different editions. To ensure uncompromising speed and precision in such extensive production, we invested in the most powerful Horizon gathering and saddle-stitching line. Because we leave nothing to chance in our work and guarantee our customers 100-percent reliability and respect for deadlines, we also have two additional backup lines ready in production for support. The offset printing department has also undergone an important modernisation. We upgraded the machine park with a top-of-the-range 5-colour Heidelberg printing press of the latest generation, setting new standards in print quality. At the same time, we did not overlook modern market trends. In view of the increasing fragmentation of print runs and the growing need for personalised printing and print-on-demand, we rapidly developed the digital printing department and equipped it with as many as four high-production digital printing machines. Today, as we celebrate 50 years of operation, Grafika Gracer proudly combines the invaluable experience of tradition with the most modern technological solutions. Family values, care for employees, continuous innovation and complete dedication to our customers remain our highest priority for the decades to come.
